Talk 1: High Performance Learning — Target: Rails 5 (Sherif Abushadi)
It’s 2016. Changes in the technology landscape are coming faster than ever and the only constant is change. Isn’t it about time you doubled down on your learning skills?
Join us for a tour of the state of the art in learning science and practices as applied to Rails 5. Embrace the confusion and optimize how you get and stay smart on new technology.
Sherif Abushadi has been designing and building software systems for 20 years and has been teaching others to do the same at Dev Bootcamp and elsewhere since 2001.
Talk 2: What if I told you… You’re already doing Microservices. (Gonzalo Maldonado)
This talk “based on real events” will go over a fictional Rails app that organically grew into a Microservice Architecture. It will explain what patterns emerged (it all started with adding a Railsengine) and how any team can implement some of their tricks with tools already at their disposal.
Since the days where computers had green screens, Gonzalo has been hacking any turing-complete device he has stumbled upon. From Apple IIs, Raspberry Pis to iOS devices and Distributed Ruby Systems (yes Ruby can be concurrent), he has managed to tame any system to create fun and useful software that makes people happy. He now is a Lead Engineer at Must Win a consultancy specialized on helping all sorts of companies build and maintain scalable systems.
Talk 3: Finding Similar Bugs with Searchkick and Elasticsearch
A huge part of Bugcrowd’s vulnerability assessment process depends upon the ability to search for and identify submissions that are similar to each other. Using a combination of Rails, Searchkick, Elasticsearch and Microservices, Damien will demonstrate the evolution of Bugcrowd’s similarity search infrastructure.
Damien is a software engineering leader from Sydney, Australia. He has worked across a broad range of technologies and markets including C++ for hair salon chains, embedded C for sound reinforcement solutions and Ruby on Rails for online multimedia streaming organizations. He is also an avid world motorcycle adventurer. Damien currently runs the Engineering team at Bugcrowd.
