Hi! We are Bootyard! A Ruby on Rails Web Development and Web Design shop based in the Philippines.
And this is our weekly roundup. Where we talk about the hardest problem we faced this week, the solution to that problem and the lessons we learned while solving the problem.
The hardest problem that I faced this week is on testing the staging-LinkHunter. After we went through the database migration process in staging.
`permission denied relation` keep showing when I test the campaign creation. Because of the error, I can’t test the other features because I can’t create campaign.
After find out, what is the cause of the error? I found out that the staging database had exceeded the limit of 10,000 rows.
Since this is staging environment, our solution is to reset the database. But before we reset the database, we make sure to create a backup file of staging database.
The hardest problem that I worked on this week is to design a dynamic page which is the SEO Tools in SEOStartupGuide website.
The solution is that, I implemented the CSS design based on the default style file because they have the same design format of the SEO Tools page.
CSS can control the layout of multiple webpages. A dynamic webpage is a webpage that displays different content each time it is being viewed.
This week I was working on HURR, one of Bootyard’s client projects. One of my tasks HURR required knowing the location of a user based on user inputs. This task was made easy by using `geocomplete.js`. This plugin was developed by Ubilabs.
`geocomplete.js` is a jQuery plugin that wraps the Google Maps API’s Geocoding and Places Autocomplete services.
Using `geocomplete.js` I was able to add an input field that lets users search for location from a nice set of dropdown addresses.
There are more things you can add into your rails app using `geocomplete.js` so make sure you check it out.
This week, I was working on a client project, Prysim. Prysim is a startup based in Australia.
Prysim is the first fully integrated music industry management system. It is the only system needed to find, book, organize and manage venues and artists.
One of the features we had to build for Prysim this week was to show a list of events for the venues and artists. The best way to present events is through a calendar. A lots of calendar plugins you can use when you are using Ruby on Rails. The plugin we opted for Prysim was FullCalendar.
Thank you for watching our Weekly Roundup.
See you next week!
