One can argue that innovation is driven by the experts—competent people who know existing approaches and can combine them efficiently to obtain good solutions. In fact, though, it seems that innovation happens a little differently. This session discusses development of new programming languages (focusing on JVM-targeted languages) and presents some analysis of the trends in this area. It argues that languages are tools and thus are developed primarily according to the demands of the community, leaving experts a little bit to the side of the “battlefield.”
